The medieval manuscript fragments written on parchment and concealed in old book bindings offer important insights to researchers of medieval book and cultural history. (Pellegrin, 1980) Over the past 30-40 years, their systematization and appraisal have gathered speed in Hungarian and international research on manuscripts. The aim of the research is to investigate in a systematic way the material preserved inHungary’s public collections and to describe such material – together with the material collected by Scheiber – in accordance with the standard norms and expectations of current research. A subsequent aim is to make the material available to international researchers.
